ADVANTAGES AND CONSIDERATIONS
Advantages:
- Ideal for beginner and freeride boards in shallow water conditions
- Maximizes lift in minimal water depth
- Handles impacts with underwater obstacles better than standard fins
- Perfect for windsurfing schools and training environments
Considerations:
- More drag compared to mainstream fin designs due to specialized profile

Fins Fundamentals
What causes spin-outs and how can they be prevented ?
A spin-out occurs when the water flow along the fin breaks off, causing the board to slide sideways or at an angle to your sailing direction. This happens when the sideways force from the sail through your body to the fin becomes too great.
To prevent spin-outs: choose the right fin length and angle for your sail size, and manage back foot pressure.
To recover: shift weight to the mastfoot while realigning the back foot with your direction of movement.
Why do some fins perform better upwind than others?
Upwind performance in fins is determined by three main factors:
- Surface area: Larger fins provide more lift and better upwind capability
- Rake angle: More upright fins (less rake) generally perform better upwind
- Profile shape: Fins with efficient foil sections create more lift with less drag
The balance between these factors determines how well a fin will perform when sailing upwind.
